Plot:
It's a typical post-war day in the Central London neighborhood of Pimlico, with the exception of everyone working around the hole where a war-era active bomb is located, it imminently to be safely detonated. It, however, goes off a little earlier than expected. No one is injured, but it does expose the possibility of buried treasure, which is ultimately discovered by shopkeeper Arthur Pemberton. Beyond the question of who the treasure did or will belong to, Professor Hatton-Jones is called in to provide her expert opinion. What she rules is that it belonged to the former Duke of Burgundy, and due to rules of residence, the area of what was the Duke's estate in Pimlico is still considered part of Burgundy. While most of the nineteen families affected by this ruling view it somewhat as a non-issue, one-by-one they begin to see the benefit in skirting the austerity of post-war Britain by becoming Burgundians. It becomes a game of oneupsmanship between these new Burgundians and the British government, both sides, however, fighting from the mentality of being British through and through.
