Parker is a thief that has his principles in accordance with his code of honor and follows rules. During a barbecue at the house of Hurley, who is a retired thief and father of his girlfriend Claire, he is invited to join and lead the thieves Melander, Carlson, Ross and Hardwicke in a heist. They head to the Ohio State Fair and succeeds in robing, but Hardwicke does not follow Parker's plan at all, causing casualties among the innocent people. While fleeing, Parker is invited by the crew to join them in another job, but he refuses and requests his share. However, Melander needs the money for the next heist, and asks Hardwicke to kill Parker. He survives, and a farmer family rescues him in their truck and takes him to a hospital. When he recovers, he flees from the hospital and seeks out the whereabouts of the crew. Hurley warns him that Hardwicke is the nephew of the powerful mobster boss Danzinger, and he should forget the crew. He learns that they are in Palm Beach, and Parker provides fake travels to Florida posing as a wealthy Texan oil tycoon looking for a house. He divorced real estate agent Leslie Rodgers, who lives in the house of her mother Ascension, sees the chance to solve her financial problems if she receives a high commission, and shows Parker several expensive houses and provides the information he needs to find the thieves. Soon she checks his credit and learns that his ID is fake, and she offers to help him. But Leslie is a snoopy woman and may endanger the quest of Parker;
