Plot:
"Outras Estorias" ("Other Stories") is based on the novel Primeiras Estorias ("Firsts Stories") by the Brazilian writer Joao Guimaraes Rosa. It takes place in the countryside of Minas Gerais and is divided in five timeless tales: (1) "Famigerado" ("Notorious") - The feared outlaw Damastor Dagobe seeks out an educated man asking the meaning of the word "famigerado" ("notorious"). (2) "Irmaos Dagobe" ("Dagobe Brothers") - A good young man kills Damastor Dagobe in self-defense. His dangerous brothers come to the funeral and the locals believe they will revenge their brother. Out of the blue, the youngster offers to carry the coffin with the brothers to the cemetery and has a surprise. (3) "Substancia" ("Substance") - The farmer Sionesio falls in love with the joyful employee Maria Exita that has been raised by his family since she was a child abandoned by her family. However, he is afraid that she might have inherited the disease of her mother. (4) "Nada e a Nossa Condicao" ("Nothing and Our Condition") - After the death of his wife, the farmer Tio Manantonio decides to secretly share his lands among his employees, telling his three daughters and sons-in-law that he is selling the real estate. (5) "Soroco Sua Mae Sua Filha" ("Soroco His Mother His Daughter") - The butcher Soroco spends most of his time chasing his mother and his daughter that are both mad. One day, he decides to send them to Barbacena by train.
