In German-occupied Netherlands, a teenage boy gets involved in the Dutch resistance after coming to the aid of a wounded RAF pilot.
Dutch town mayor Johan's rascal son Michiel (14), who dreams of joining the resistance against the Nazis, finds badly leg-wounded parachute-jumped English pilot Jack, hides him and gets his nurse sister to tend his wounds. Michiel must now mistrust everyone, while the Germans find the wreck and parachute and threaten to take innocent hostages, including in-living uncle Ben and Johan. The plans to evacuate Jack so he can rejoin the front must be revised as bad lack and treason lurk.
