Plot:
On a cold, winter night, a solitary, middle-aged bachelor named Seligman finds an unconscious and battered woman, Joe, in a dark alleyway behind his apartment. He brings her to his home, tends to her wounds, and offers her tea. When he asks what happened, Joe begins to recount her life story, identifying herself as a "nymphomaniac." As she narrates her sexual journey from her teenage years into adulthood-recounting her experiences, relationships, and internal conflicts-Seligman listens intently, often comparing her complex and often scandalous stories to his own vast, eclectic knowledge of subjects like fly fishing, classical music, and Fibonacci numbers. The narrative explores themes of guilt, sexual liberation, and moral ambiguity, structured as a series of vignettes that delve deep into the psyche of a woman struggling to reconcile her desires with the world around her.
