Plot:
San Francisco. After going to the symphony, wealthy socialite and musically knowledgeable Cathy Mallory and her friends go "slumming" at a club, Chez Mamie, where clarinetist Chick Morgan and his combo are performing. There, Cathy meets Chick's pianist, recently blinded Dan Evans. She isn't so much impressed with his piano playing skills, but the passion with which he plays what she learns is his original, uncompleted composition. Dan, feeling sorry for himself, believes that this unknown wealthy woman (in Chick telling him that she was wearing a mink) considers him a freak show, and has no intention of formally completing the composition. With information from Chick including that Dan wants nothing from the sighted world, let alone from a wealthy socialite, Cathy goes on a mission, with Chick and her Aunt Willey's help, to infiltrate Dan's life by pretending to be blind Mary Willey. Her goal is first to encourage Dan to complete his composition, and second, upon learning that there is a potentially sight restoring operation that can be had in New York City for $5,000, to get him the money. As she falls in love with Dan and he seemingly with "Mary", she may not realize that if she is successful in both her missions, she may end up losing Dan to a musically sighted world.
