Plot:
The Romanian vampire Count Dracula became considerably wealthy through old-fashioned ways: the ruthless exploitation of peasants and workers for his operations. Towards the end of the 18th century, Dracula fell in love with a shy peasant girl and married her. His wife died in childbirth, leaving him broken-hearted. He never loved again, but he felt obligated to raise his newborn twins on his own and viewed himself as a traditional "family man". He continued financially supporting both kids for 200 years, though they were never emotionally close to each other. Towards the final years of his life, Dracula became a broken old man and a habitual drug user. The vampire hunter Van Helsing stalked and killed a weakened and disoriented Dracula in the streets of 1990s New York City. Dracula's daughter Nadja senses his death and has her father cremated to prevent his eventual resurrection. Nadja has mixed feelings of joy and sorrow about her father's death, and ends up drinking alone in a bar to numb her feelings. A young woman asks her for a cigarette and the two soon have a session of girl-talk, Nadja and her new friend Lucy confide in each other about their past traumatic experiences and their emotional problems. Lucy invites the vampire woman to her home, where she confesses that her husband has been long neglecting her and that she is extremely lonely. The two women have a one-night stand with unexpected consequences. Nadja feels that she is developing genuine feelings for Lucy, while Lucy goes through some strange changes within the following day. Her nose is bleeding for no apparent reason, she is bleeding from other places, and she feels weak for some time. She thinks that the effects are the result of her menstrual cycle. Then she starts having "zombie"-like trances, she briefly demonstrates feats of superhuman strength, she has on overwhelming desire to find Nadja, and she can mentally sense Nadja's location over long distances. Van Helsing fears that Lucy is either transforming into a vampire or into one of their minions. The vampire hunter is nor certain how to handle the situation, since Lucy is his daughter-in-law.
