Max, happily married, receives a call from his wealthy uncle to pay him a visit now that he is about to start on his vacation. Max is perplexed. His uncle will be furious if he learns that Max has married without consulting him and yet Max dare not ignore the invitation. He decides to visit his uncle and, by wire, so informs him. When Mrs. Max learns of her husband's decision, she will have none of it, resorting to that effective weapon, tears. Reluctantly, Max compromises by taking her along. As he nears his uncle's domain, Max hides his wife in a valise. How? That's one of Max's secrets. The poor bride, cooped up in the valise, is roughly handled, despite Max's watchfulness. And even when Max gets to his room and releases his spouse their troubles are not over. Uncle Paul raps at the door for admission. Max hides his wife in the chimney. It was a narrow escape. Mrs. Max looks like a dusky belle, she is so covered with soot. They hurry to the bathroom to remove the dirt. Enter Uncle Paul. There is no hope and Max confesses all. But Uncle Paul is a regular fellow, and forgiving his nephew and niece, gives them his blessing and a belated wedding present.
