Plot:
London, 1910. Self-described as "practically perfect in every way", magical Mary Poppins lives in the clouds over the city, the wind blowing her to wherever she feels she is needed. That next stop is 17 Cherry Tree Lane, the home of the well off Banks family: stiff officious patriarch George W. Banks, a banker, his flighty suffragette wife Winnifred Banks, and their two adolescent children Jane and Michael Banks who are left to the care of a nanny in the parents preoccupied with their own lives. The problem is the conflict between what the parents see as the perfect nanny, almost military in nature, and what Jane and Michael see as perfect, they who want someone pretty, kind, and fun, which has led to a series of so far six nannies hired by Winnifred quitting in frustration in Jane and Michael always getting into trouble. Feeling he can do better, George takes charge of hiring the next nanny, Mary Poppins, in her own take charge manner, able to insert herself into the job before George even knows what happened. While a disciplinarian, Mary Poppins is exactly who Jane and Michael asked for in a nanny. With her friend Bert, a man of the streets and of many talents, Mary Poppins takes her charges on magical adventures around the city, all the while they behaving in a proper manner to Mary Poppins' expectations. The question becomes what will happen in the household between especially George and Mary Poppins, who will not be told what she should and should not do in she always being right.
