Plot
Storyline
A classic tale about bitter relationships between a frivolous girl and a soldier is adapted for the post-World War II time.
In the northern French province after liberation from German occupation: Young Manon Lescaut is captured by French soldiers for collaborating with the Nazis. To escape prison, she flirts with soldier Robert Desgrieux, who succumbs to her charms and decides on the spot to flee with her. They arrive in Paris at Manon's brother's place, who has connections in the milieu. And a quiet married life with Robert is not at all to Manon's liking. She wants to lead a dissolute lifestyle, and she will stop at nothing to achieve this. She wants to persuade Robert to get involved in shady deals with her brother - but he prefers a regular job. Manon stubbornly pursues her dream of big money and lets wealthy men pay her for her amorous services. When Robert finds out, he gets into a fight with Manon's brother, whom he kills in the heat of the moment. The couple spontaneously flees on a ship taking Jews from Marseille to Palestine.
