In 1970s Vienna, an unnamed female writer and poet-brilliant, free-spirited and deeply introspective-navigates intense emotional and psychological terrain as she lives with Malina, a calm, orderly man who shares her apartment and represents stability and reason. Her life becomes tumultuous when she meets Ivan, a younger, passionate lover whose presence ignites in her an all-consuming love and irresistible desire.
