Plot:
Martin lives like Robinson Crusoe on a small Caribbean island, where he grows vegetables far away from civilization. Only now and then does he travel to the nearest port town to sell his produce and have a little fun. On one such trip, he meets Nelly, a pretty French woman. She has slipped into the hotel room next to his to escape the clutches of her soon-to-be husband, Vittorio. When the enraged groom shows up and tries to force Nelly to keep her promise, Martin can't help but help her. But Nelly actually manages to get herself into even greater trouble by swindling her old friend and nightclub owner Alex out of a valuable painting, which the penniless runaway bride intends to sell for travel money. When Martin nevertheless manages to get Nelly on a plane to Paris, the relief is immense. But he's mistaken, for Nelly has followed him unnoticed to his tranquil island. The dropout Martin, however, sees no reason to share his hard-earned paradise with the pushy Frenchwoman, whereupon an adventurous love war unfolds between the two. Nelly, in turn, discovers that Martin is also on the run, and hopes for a fresh start together in some unknown faraway place.
