Le retour de Don Camillo

The quick-tempered priest Don Camillo has been transferred by his superiors as a punishment. When he arrives in his new parish, a remote mountain village, he is not exactly given a warm welcome. His new housekeeper is not exactly what you would call a friendly person, and when Don Camillo holds his first service on Sunday, he preaches to empty pews. In short: disappointment all round. But in his home village of Boscaccio, his adversary Peppone is not doing much better. The quarrelsome mayor misses his favorite enemy, because Don Camillo's successor is, at best, a figure of fun. A man like Peppone needs an equal opponent. So he campaigns to have Reverend Don Camillo return to his home village. However, there is a bit of self-interest behind his helpfulness: Peppone wants to persuade a stubborn landowner to give up part of his land for the planned dyke construction - and the support of a church dignitary can't hurt.
