Plot:
1987. Adele has become increasingly emotionally crippled, even more so after her ex-husband Gerald left her, he now remarried with another family. Their preteen son Henry has become her everything, except a husband, as she rarely leaves the house. While Adele and Henry are shopping at a big box retailer at the beginning of the Labor Day long weekend in preparation for Henry returning to school, they are approached by a man who, by his implied menace, is able to coerce them into taking him to their house. He, Frank, is eventually up front that he is a convict, his abdominal wound not from a gunshot, but from appendix surgery, the hospital from where he escaped. While he doesn't divulge it, Adele and Henry learn from the news that he was in prison for murder, although he tells them his story isn't as simple as it's made out to be. All he wants is a place to hide out for a few hours at which time he will leave to continue his escape. He doesn't directly threaten or confine them, with the exception of tying them up once so that they can say that he did "kidnap" them if they are ever questioned, but the implied menace does continue. That menace quickly changes to cooperation as he does things for them that a man of the house would, to a point where Adele and Frank contemplate a life together for the three of them in Canada, crossing the border which does not require a passport. The question becomes if their pipe dream can become reality, especially as he is still a wanted escaped murderer in the eyes of the law.
