FBI agent Jerry Cotton (Christian Tramitz) receives a delicate assignment. The experienced "lone wolf" must investigate the murder of of New York gang boss Sammy Serrano (AKA the puppeteer) with a new, inexperienced partner, Phil Decker (Christian Ulmen). When he follows a lead to the club Cristallo in the red-light district, he uncovers a web of intrigue which even involves his former colleague Daryl Zanuck (Christiane Paul).
