Plot:
The original Danish title, "Vanskabte land," directly refers to Iceland as a "terrible land," to which the young priest Lucas is sent at the end of the 19th century. He is tasked with establishing a church community there and also taking the first photographs of the island and its inhabitants. On the way there, his translator teaches him various words for rainy weather: drizzle, heavy rain, drizzle, storm. A preparation for the harsh weather on the remote island, where water determines life. Filmed in beautiful camera shots, "Godland" is a tribute to Iceland's overwhelming nature, sometimes harsh and sometimes full of beauty. But the priest increasingly struggles with nature, and his lack of language skills also causes him despair. Some residents are very hostile toward Lucas. In keeping with the weather, an inner darkness grows within him, causing him to question his faith. Is he up to this difficult mission?
