Plot:
Wealthy with too much time on their hands, young, married Manhattanites Paul and Jennifer Montgomery indulge themselves with their adult toys - primarily contemporary art and a wide variety of arcade type games - and with a flair for the dramatic, show them off to their wealthy society friends. Generally, Paul is the one with the buying impulses, while Jennifer, who brought the money into their marriage, proverbially writes the checks. One day, middle age Lisa Schindler is able to maneuver herself into the Montgomerys' house on a lie, and it's shortly after that Jennifer discovers that she is nothing more than a door-to-door cosmetics salesperson. Lisa collapses ill on their living room floor from what Jennifer's longtime family doctor determines is a case of sheer exhaustion. With Lisa having nowhere else to go, Jennifer invites her to stay with them overnight until she is well enough. In getting to know Paul and Jennifer and giving them gifts which fit directly into their mentality of the kitsch, Lisa, who also indulges in the occult stemming from her old world European background, implies that Paul's collection of games are for children, she telling them of the more adult and worldly variety of games she has indulged in herself in her past. This statement and a demonstration of what she means begins a series of games between the three where there is a need to one up the others on the last game played, each game more and more dangerous with potentially deadly consequences.
