The sorcerer Kwark is the protector of a magical 'hexed' forest, where he finds a hatching witch's egg. He names the fledgling witch, who adopts him as 'father' like young geese do, Foeksia (after the flower Fuchsia), and so grows fast. being clumsy and inquisitive, he sends her to his ex Minuul's school of witchcraft. Though forbidden to penetrate the forest and especially mingle with humans, she befriends Tommy, the gentle pre-teen son of contractor Rogier, who plans to destroy the forest for the evil mayoress's megalomaniac development project. Tommy helps his magical friends save their home, while Foeksia's unskilled magic proves rather unsafe.
