Guy, born, raised and still residing in Free City, loves his routinized life not knowing anything different, it which includes his job as a bank teller always donned in a blue short sleeved shirt and khaki trousers. That routine also includes violent acts all around him, the bank seemingly being robbed multiple times a day which doesn't bother him as he knows he and those around him will remain safe in that routine. He also knows that who are known as the sunglasses people - those always wearing sunglasses - are seen as the city's heroes, they seemingly getting whatever they want in the process in being above the law in those heroic acts of killing other causing mayhem. The one thing he wishes was different about his life is to fall in love, he having a picture of that woman in his mind. His life changes when he sees that woman, a sunglasses person. He following her changes the course of his life. What he doesn't know is that he lives in an online video game called Free City developed and distributed by Soonami Studios, he and those with whom he routinely interacts solely being meaningless background characters in the game, while the sunglasses people are avatars chosen by the real life gamers, the object of his affection, MolotovGirl, the avatar of Millie Rusk. Millie, a software developer, and her fellow developer Walter McKey are certain that Antwan, the owner of Soonami, stole the source code that they developed to create Free City, and has hidden the proof somewhere in Free City, the reason that she continually plays the game, something that Keys is reluctant to do in he now working for Soonami. This change in Guy's life is in getting a hold of a pair of sunglasses himself. As such, many of the other players begin to believe that Guy is a real player, who they coin "Blue Shirt Guy". As Millie searches for the code and interacts with Guy, she has to convince him that he and Free City are not real. The reason for her need to do this and find the hidden proof, both quickly, are that Antwan will be releasing Free City 2 in a few days, shutting down Free City in the process when the proof and Guy himself will disappear into the nether regions of cyberspace forever, Guy who has begun to love his new life opened up by Millie.
