Easter Sunday

Divorced Joe Valencia is a minor celebrity as a Los Angles-based stand-up comic and actor, with the work for which he is best known being a national beer commercial, he known not only by name but as the beer guy and the catchphrase he utters in the commercial, "Let's get the party started, baby." His focus on getting ahead in the business doesn't sit well his with teenage son, affectionately referred to as Junior, in Joe missing all the important moments in his life. In turn, Joe is placing much effort in getting the regular supporting role in a sitcom as stable work meaning more money for things like Junior's upcoming tuition and more time with Junior, the major sticking point seeming to be what Joe considers the somewhat offensive thing he is asked to do as part of the characterization. Joe agrees to his Filipino mother Susan's request to bring Junior "home" to Daly City for Easter Sunday despite Joe not really wanting to go home, and, beyond being able to connect with the Filipino side of his heritage which he doesn't know well, Junior not really wanting to spend time with Joe on a ten hour round trip car drive. As Joe ends up being preoccupied with calls from his agent Nick about the sitcom negotiations, he tries to spend some quality time with Junior as he deals with other issues in Daly City: the request by Father Hildo, the pastor at the family's church, to use his show business connections to get his Christian pop song in the right hands; the on-going feud between Susan and her sister, "Tita" Teresa, the origins of which are unknown but which not only threatens what little family harmony there would be at Easter Sunday lunch (hosted by Teresa) and Easter Sunday dinner (hosted by Susan); and learning that his cousin Eugene, whose Filipino taco truck business in which he's invested $20,000, has been reimagined by Eugene into something else, with dangerous consequences.
