Plot:
The approximate half day leading up to the start and the few first picks of the 2014 NFL draft is presented. It focuses on Cleveland Browns General Manager Sonny Weaver, Jr., who sees the job of the picks for the Browns as his and his alone despite the protestations otherwise of owner Anthony Molina and coach Vince Penn, whose views may differ from his. Conversely, the potential draft picks quietly have their preferences of which team they are hoping to be a part of for whatever reason, with being number one having its own cachet regardless of team. While teams have a good idea of who will be picked in what order, throwing a wrinkle into the process is a team above one's own choosing someone else than who is expected, with the next team in the rotation having a ten minute time clock to make their pick or otherwise forfeit their turn. Picking seventh overall, Sonny has the conundrum of the quarterback position. They had a winning last season until first string quarterback Brian Drew sustained a knee injury, which looks like it may be a chronic issue. As such, he has to decide if he should negotiate for the first pick overall held by the Seattle Seahawks, who are sure to pick who is seen as the quarterback of the future, Bo Callahan of the University of Wisconsin, and at what price especially as it affects the team's future beyond this one position. For Sonny, the draft is set against the backdrop of the recent death of his father, Sonny Weaver, Sr., the former Browns' coach who he fired which may have been a cause of his passing, and the open secret relationship he has with Ali Parker, the team's salary cap analyst, their relationship which is at a crossroads beyond the issue of it still being "secret".
