Johnny, a grizzled radio journalist, travels the country interviewing kids about their lives, fears, and thoughts on the future. As a result, he hasn't spoken to his semi-estranged sister, Viv, in months. However, when Viv needs to go to Northern California to deal with her ex-husband, for once in his life, Johnny steps in to look after her precocious 9-year-old son, Jesse, in Los Angeles. After all, he is the cool uncle. As Johnny and his inquisitive nephew embark on a long journey from New York to New Orleans, their bond deepens as they discover different aspects of themselves, one conversation at a time. But the question remains: is Johnny fit for parenting?
