Hope Howard has given up everything for her career, only to be betrayed by her boss Dr. Jakes and unceremoniously fired for no apparent reason. After recovering from the shock, she returns to her hometown to sort out her life while reconnecting with her high school best friend Stephanie. Shortly after her departure, Dr. Jakes, a desperate scientist, discovers Hope holds the secret to his fatal illness - but she has disappeared. When visiting her mother's grave, Hope has a tense encounter with her estranged father. Days later she unexpectedly bumps into her former high school love who ended their relationship abruptly without explanation.
