Cellar Door

Sera and John Winter, a statistics professor and an architect, respectively, are a happily married couple, although John has the constant temptation to stray in working with ex-girlfriend Alyssa Hayes. After Sera miscarries, the pregnancy the result of expensive IVF treatments, the Winters want a fresh start in life by moving out of their apartment and the work they put into its nursery. As they seem unable to find anything in their price range in the community they have chosen, they are advised by their real estate agent to meet with wealthy Emmett Claymore, who she says has an insider's perspective of everything having to do with the community. After an extensive meeting with affable Emmett including a stay overnight in his mansion, Sera and John are shocked to learn that he is willing to give them said mansion fully furnished, the deal on the sole condition that they not open the locked cellar door, contravening that condition which would nullify the agreement. While Sera doesn't want to look this gift horse in its mouth in her need to move on with their life in her quest for perfection, John is a little more suspicious about the cellar despite ultimately agreeing to the deal. But as John's life begins to spiral downward out of control without Sera's full knowledge, and as they experience odd things with the house which again John is more open to question, the temptation of the cellar may be too much, especially for John.
