In Los Angeles, Carla Moran is a single mother and hard worker that raises her three children from two relationships alone, the teenager Billy and the girls Julie and Kim Moran. Out of the blue, she is raped during the night by an invisible rapist followed by mysterious phenomena at home, and she flees to the house of her best friend Cindy Nash in the middle of the night. She returns home with her children and while going to the work, she crashes her car after losing the control of her car caused by a mysterious force. Cindy convinces Carla to have a session with a psychiatrist and Carla goes to the hospital. Dr. Phil Sneiderman attends her and convinces her to have a psychological treatment. When she returns home, she is violently attacked in the bathroom and Billy hurts his hand. Dr. Sneiderman believes Carla's events are hysteria caused by sexual traumas in her past including incest and does not believe her. When Cindy witnesses the poltergeist activity that Carla has lived along the nights, they look for literature of parapsychology. Carla meets two parapsychologists at the library that become interested on her mysterious case. Now Carla sees a light of hope to solve the attacks of the entity that is haunting her. But Dr. Sneiderman believes parapsychologists are charlatans and Carla's life will be affected by their fantasies.
