Fed up with the shenanigans of his obnoxious second wife, Vanessa, the self-made multi-millionaire clothing manufacturer, Thornton Melon, pays his college undergraduate son, Jason, a surprise visit. When Thornton discovers that his mixed-up son wants to drop out, he decides to go back to school, and enrols himself as a freshman, intent on earning the degree he never had.
