Plot Storyline
During the Korean War, a battle-worn lieutenant and his platoon are behind enemy lines, and have orders to march to Hill 465 for possible relief.
Toward the end of the Korean War, two very different American soldiers cross paths. Together, they wander through the turmoil of the war's final days. On July 27, 1953, the Korean War ended with the armistice agreement signed at Panmunjom. Anthony Mann directed the film in 1956 as a military drama that "tells the story of everyday life in war on a small scale." There is neither cause nor opportunity for heroism, nor is there a "cause" worth defending; everything human is difficult to preserve and can be wiped out at any moment.
