Plot:
Winter 1823, an elderly Salieri has something to confess... Antonio Salieri, court composer to Emperor Joseph II is enjoying a successful career in Vienna and has everything going for him. He aspires to be a great music composer and to give something back to God in return. Unfortunately, things take a bad turn for the worst when another music composer enters the scene. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Initially, Salieri is delighted at the opportunity to meet him in person but suffers disappointment when he discovers that Mozart's personality lacks the greatness of his compositions. Salieri has always been a devout Catholic and always dedicated to his music yet it feels as if God has chosen Mozart over him. That does not feel right to him. What confuses Salieri is that although God has given Mozart his talent in music, Mozart is not giving anything back in return for it. Mozart is genuinely talented but at the very worst arrogant, indulgent, immature and defies authority figures. So that is why Salieri gives into his envy and allows his obsession with greatness to dominate him. There goes all of the positive aspirations the court composer once had.
