Beginning with a Science News Report by British news anchor Tim Brinton, who talks about missing scientists (a British "Brain Drain"). After other reporters (Carol Hazell as Katherine White) look into 4 missing scientists, upon further investigation looks to be over 400 missing from the U.K. As the film continues in a '60 Minutes' style, they look into the mystery of how these folks disappeared without a trace. During this 'Part One' of the 'Report', they uncover a curious videotape from a Radio Telescope that was recorded by a murdered scientist Dr. Ballentine, which leads them to a potential whistleblower (Harry played by David Baxt) who makes initial contact, afraid, but sane, then 24 hours later seems deranged and unable or unwilling to tell his story. Thus ends Part One. As Part two opens, they start finding pieces of a story that could be rumor, called "Alternative 3". Then, they locate former Apollo lunar astronaut Bob Grodin, played by former Thunderbird voice of Scott Tracy, Shane Rimmer. When they interview him, he's clearly alcoholic, and while unwilling to talk plainly, once he's inebriated, he purports that Apollo was a smokescreen, and that we already had a moon base, created by Russian and American scientists/astronauts. As Brinton continues the report, his investigations seem to confirm that Russians and Americans have been cooperating on a massive space program. Why? In order to keep this from totally spoiling the movie, I will say that they realize that a highly select group of humans need to leave the Earth so the species can continue, after we poison this one. The Science Report suggests that Mars may be that destination. Why? The conclusion presents some very compelling evidence.
