Acquainted

Toronto. Having gone to high school together but not having really known each other then, Drew and Emma run into each other while each is on a drunken evening out with respective friends. They seem to have an easy rapport with each other beyond a physical attraction, the issue in embarking on a romantic relationship being that both are in existing long term relationships, each at one of major change. Drew, an aspiring writer, and his restaurateur girlfriend Claire, have just bought a house together, which Claire likens to a thirty year commitment to each other (the length of their mortgage). And Emma, who works at a flower shop, is thinking about moving to Montreal for a teaching job at a post-secondary institution, while her potter boyfriend Alex is waiting to hear about a one-year apprenticeship in Japan. While they profess to love each other, neither Emma or Alex have asked the other to forgo his or her professional aspiration to accompany him/her. The fact of those existing relationships doesn't stop Drew and Emma from exchanging numbers to keep in touch. Their subsequent interactions which always have that romantic possibility front and center, are affected by the thoughts of their existing relationship, what they want versus the morals of "cheating", and foreseen and unforeseen changes in their lives.
